Committees

 Accident Prevention:  The Accident Prevention committee is normally comprised of Lodge Trustees. This committee oversees any and all hazardous areas of the Lodge, works to improve any safety issues within the Lodge and on the Lodge property.

Activities Committee:  This committee consisting of not less than three members, typically the Exalted Ruler and the three Knights. The Activities Committee shall:

(1.) Be charged with implementing the Drug Awareness Program, the Hoop Shoot program, public relations program of the Lodge.

(2.) Supervise all matters pertaining to Lodge activities of civic, social and community interest, including one programs solely identified as Elk sponsored, within the jurisdiction of the Lodge, and develop community projects that emphasize the charitable works of the Order.

(3.) Prepare, supervise and conduct programs for the youth of the community and implement all youth programs of the Lodge.

Americanism:  The Committee is charged with the duty of instituting and promoting patriotic activities of the Order

Audin Committee:  The committee is responsible to evaluate and manage the procedures for the Clem & Evelyn Audin request to the CO Elks Association (CEA). All requests are exclusively for education, health, development and care for young people 18 years and younger.

Auditing & Accounting Committee:  This is an internal committee that audits the books of the Lodge, works with the outside Auditor to ensure the Lodge is operating within the guidelines of Grand Lodge.

Bulletin (Elk Horn):  This is Littleton’s own newspaper. It is published and mailed each month, with the exception of August. July and August are combined into a single bulletin.

By-Laws Committee:  This committee reviews the Lodge By-Laws to ensure that they comply with the statutes of Grand Lodge. Lodge by-laws need to be reviewed at a minimum of every 5 years.

Car Show Committee:  The committee organizes a yearly car show that takes place in August during Littleton’s Western Welcome Week celebration. Proceeds are donated to a local charity.

Children’s Christmas Party:  The committee organizes a Christmas party for Lodge members families. The committee is part of the Ladies of the Elks.

Community Activities:  This committee keeps track of ongoing local activities in the Littleton community.

Decorating:  This committee organizes and supplies necessary decorations for events held at the Lodge.

Dictionaries:  This committee distributes dictionaries for Littleton School District students in the 2nd grade.

Drug Awareness:  The committee is responsible to promote the Elks National Drug Awareness Programs, and organize awareness at local Lodge events.

Elks National Foundation:  The role of the committee is to ensure the Grand Exalted Rulers per-capita challenge is achieved to allow our Lodge to receive access to available Grand Lodge grants. The committee is responsible for applying for available grants, establishing programs to help raise money to achieve the per-capita goal set by the Grand Exalted Ruler.

Entertainment:  The committee is responsible to provide necessary entertainment for all Lodge sponsored events.

Fishing Derby: This committee organizes and administers the one day event in August for children in our community during Littleton's Western Welcome Week celebration.

Friends of the Haven: This committee supports the ongoing effort provided by this community organization that provides a place where women can recover from addictions and co-occurring mental illness; deliver healthy drug-free infants (if pregnant); improve parenting skills and receive quality early educational services for their children; maintain and build upon cultural and family connections as sources of social support; and become self-sufficient, confident, and productive members of our community.

Funeral:  The committee performs graveside services for departed members. It frequently happens that the family of a deceased member of the Order desire his Lodge to conduct a funeral service incident to his interment, either in supplement of the usual religious rites, or as the only ceremonial to be used.

A ritual for such a service has been provided, to be conducted by the officers and members of the Lodge. Without any suggestion of sectarianism, it is beautiful and impressive, and it is appropriately designed for use in the Lodge room, in a funeral home, or at the grave.

This ceremonial is designated - "Lodge of Sorrow."

Golf:  The committee organizes Lodge tournaments and/or outings.

Government Relations:  The committee should establish contact with our area legislators, providing them with pertinent information and charitable data concerning various Elks activities. Invite them to Lodge events such as Flag Day, Scholarship Dinners, Youth and Drug Awareness activities, Veterans events and other appropriate functions

Lapsation:  Retaining members is directly related to growth in membership. This Committee is responsible for addressing this problem. Addressing the reasons for the loss is the challenge of the Committee. The committee should carry out a year‐round program of contacts and counseling to avoid losing delinquent members.

Laradon Hall:  This committee represents our Lodge at the state level, promotes the needs of Laradon and organizes fundraisers for the benefit of Laradon. With the assistance of the Elks, Laradon has grown to become one of the most comprehensive educational, vocational, residential and therapeutic program in the country for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Membership:  The purpose of the membership committee is to investigate/interview new applicants, to assure that the new applicants will be well‐informed of the objectives of membership in the Elks and that they will be socially and fraternally compatible with other Members of the Lodge. This Committee is responsible for acquainting candidates with the history of the Order, its benevolences and rightful place in society. The program should be presented in a session attended by the spouses of the candidates and, hopefully, their sponsors.

Memorial Service:  This committee, typically lead by the Lodge Chaplin, recognizes our departed members on the first Sunday in December in memory of them. It should be open to the public with special invitations to relatives of the Members it honors. The committee carefully plans, and the ritual as set forth in the Ritual of Special Services must be a part of it.

Old Timer’s Night:  This committee organizes and run the dinner to honor our members who have been in the Order for 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 years. The event is held once a year, typically in February.

PER Association:  The Past Exalted Rulers Associations offers helpful counsel and render every possible service and assistance, to the end that the Lodges may have competent and safe leadership. They may recommend, but they do not have official status as a nominating committee. Recognizing the valuable advice and guidance which can come only from those who have served as chief executive officers of their Lodge, the Order has by Statute mandated that these experienced members form an association within every Lodge and provide its competent and helpful counsel to assist the officers, committeemen and members of their Lodge in conducting its affairs.

Picnic:  This committee organizes the yearly lodge picnic, including completing all necessary permits, games and food.

Pig Roast:  This committee organizes and administers the one day event in August for Western Welcome Week.

Public Relations:  It has often been said, and truthfully, that the benevolences of the Order are the best kept secret in the world. Good deeds are their own reward, but appropriate recognition of them can further the effort and gain the prestige that the Order deserves. The Committee has the responsibility of publicizing locally the programs of the Grand Lodge, State Associations and Local Lodges through as many social media outlets as possible. The challenging assignment requires knowledge of the news, and social media, ways of attracting their attention and continuing efforts to accomplish favorable results.

Standing Relief:  This Committee is composed of the Exalted Ruler, Esteemed Leading, Loyal and Lecturing Knights, Secretary and Treasurer of the Lodge. Its duty is to investigate the merits of all proposals for aid and make recommendations to the Lodge. This duty should be performed with utmost tact and thoroughness. The Committee, which acts only in an advisory capacity, has no power to collect funds of the Lodge unless specifically authorized to do so.

Saturday Hamburgers:  This committee is responsible for managing all food requirements weekly and the scheduling of the individual teams.

Scholarship:  This committee is responsible for promoting local and national scholarship opportunities. The committee meets monthly to review the Lodge 501(c) (3) Scholarship corporations’ financial status, new opportunities, current student statuses and plans for the next awards year. The committee will review all scholarship applications.

Kitchen Coordinator:  The committee is an advisory committee to assist in coordinating event meals, purchases the supplies and maintains the kitchen cleanliness, per Health Department standards, and safety procedures for all volunteers to comply with.

Visitation:  This committee is typically made up of the Exalted Ruler, Leading Knight, Loyal Knight and the Lecturing Knight responsible for welcoming visiting dignitaries to the Lodge.

Veterans Services: Committee organizes and supports the veterans programs of Grand Lodge, State and our Lodge.

Western Welcome Week:  This committee is responsible for planning and organizing the largest annual Lodge event of the year. The committee meets regularly with Western Welcome Week personnel, organizes all necessary permits, security, and volunteers.

Youth Activities:  This committee is responsible for maintaining a scouting presence at the Lodge, organizing the annual “Hoop Shoot”, promoting new programs like “Soccer Shoot” and with a goal of providing a wholesome and character-building environment for the boys and girls of every community within our influence.
